A seminar on China-Japan economic and trade cooperation under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) framework was held at Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center in the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District on May 17.
The seminar saw more than 200 representatives from Chinese and Japanese businesses, organizations, as well as chambers of commerce discuss their understanding of the RCEP and how the trade agreement could help businesses expand into new markets.
During the seminar, Yang Dongsheng, president of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, emphasized the potential for economic growth between China and Japan, as well as encouraged domestic businesses to participate in the event. He also expressed hope that through the seminar, Chinese and Japanese entrepreneurs would come to better understand each other's business environment and take advantage of the RCEP's benefits to penetrate global markets.
Delegates also heard from Japanese representatives, including Mizuta Kenji, who stressed the importance of the RCEP in Japan's economic strategy, highlighting that trade between RCEP nations accounts for close to 50 percent of Japan's foreign trade total.
The seminar took place in the Hongqiao CBD, where the Shanghai government has established a series of platforms for businesses to develop international trade. These platforms include the RCEP Enterprise Service Consultation Station, the Belt and Road Integrated Service Center, and the Hongqiao International Central Law Zone.
The seminar aimed to educate attendees on the RCEP agreement and help businesses apply the policies in their daily operations, with speeches from experts in the fields of trade and investment.
