Shanghai held an overseas promotion event titled "Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future" in Melbourne, Australia on July 28.
The event was attended by over 150 representatives from the government, business and academic circles in Australia and China.
Hua Yuan, vice-mayor of Shanghai, highlighted Shanghai's achievements in economic and social development during his keynote speech at the event and elaborated on the city's efforts to transform itself into an international hub for economy, finance, trade, shipping and scientific and technological innovation.
Hua said that investments by Australian enterprises in Shanghai, investments by Shanghai enterprises in Australia, and the trade of goods between Shanghai and Australia all saw double-digit growth in the first half of this year.
Shanghai will further enhance its global openness, trade and investment facilitation, digital and green transformation, enterprise services and business environment, Hua added.
David Olsson, national president of the Australia China Business Council, expressed his confidence that this event would promote closer ties between both sides.
The event also saw the first overseas release of the 2023 White Paper on Environment for Foreign Investment in Shanghai, as well as the signing of 10 cooperation projects related to food, agricultural products, procurement, biomedicine and high-end home care between Shanghai and Australian enterprises and organizations.
