Construction has started on three key projects - Shanghai Demonstration Zone Line, Jiashan-Xitang Line, and the west extension of Shanghai Metro Line 17, which are expected to improve public transportation in Shanghai's Hongqiao.
The 52.4-kilometer-long Shanghai Demonstration Zone Line with 10 stations will link Shanghai's main urban area, Qingpu New Town, Jiaxing, Wujiang and other areas.

For Jiaxing, it will create a new metro connection to Shanghai, providing direct access to the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Area and Hongqiao International Central Business District. This strengthens connections between Jiaxing, the demonstration zone and Shanghai, contributing to an integrated regional rail network.

Moreover, the extension project of Shanghai Metro Line 17 amplifies the existing connectivity infrastructure, extending for 6.6 km from the Oriental Land Station to the currently under-construction Xicen Station.

The west extension project will further expand the service range of the metropolitan line and create a fast passenger transportation channel connecting Xicen Science and Innovation Center, Zhujiajiao, Qingpu New Town, and Hongqiao hub.
