The Hongqiao International Opening-Up Hub Building Forum and Hub Conference 2023 took place on Nov 6 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai.
A parallel session of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum of the sixth China International Import Expo, the conference brought together significant figures including Nobel laureates, academics, representatives of top global enterprises, and industry giants.
Themed "Deepening Regional Collaborative Innovation to Empower High-Quality Development of Hongqiao International Open Hub", the conference aimed to explore the mutual empowerment of scientific and technological innovation and regional synergy, and ways to amplify the spillover effect of the expo in Hongqiao.

Jean Tirole, the 2014 Nobel laureate in economics, referenced a number of innovative Hongqiao-based enterprises with international influence, such as Ctrip, Iflytek, and Aqiyi. He emphasized the imperative nature of innovation and said that fostering disruptive innovations requires joint efforts from both the private sector and the government.

Jin Liqun, president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), emphasized that Hongqiao is emerging as a vital hub that connects the Yangtze River Delta region with Shanghai and the global market. Its future goes beyond being a hub solely for commerce and transportation, as it also will become a center for innovation and knowledge, and promote high-quality development in sectors such as the economy, trade, culture, and knowledge.
During the conference, entrepreneurs specializing in various sectors engaged in discussions on topics such as building core competitive engines through regional synergy.
The Hongqiao International Open Hub, which integrates numerous national major strategic deployments, plays a vital role in promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and facilitating the establishment of a new development pattern. Over the past years, a number of leading enterprises have set up their headquarters in Hongqiao, enabling Chinese products and services to enter the international market faster.
