Rathninde, a recipient of the prestigious Shanghai Magnolia award, reflects on the company's 30-year history in China, emphasizing the country's evolving business landscape.

Rathninde attributes Johnson Controls' growth in China to the optimization of the country's business systems in terms of marketization, legal governance, and internationalization. "China's high-level open business environment has been a catalyst for our steady growth, particularly evident in our record-breaking quarterly sales in the 2022 fiscal year," he said.

With a significant footprint in China, including 8,300 employees, 10 manufacturing plants, and three R&D centers, Johnson Controls is committed to advancing local green industrial chains and expanding the global reach of "Made in China" products. The company's local initiatives align with its global strategy of innovation and sustainability.

Rathninde's journey with China began 26 years ago as an engineer in Singapore, allowing him to witness firsthand China's rapid development and its rich cultural heritage. His unique background, including experiences in Singapore and the United States, provides a diverse perspective on the similarities and differences between Shanghai and other developed Asian regions.

Through participation in events like the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai, Johnson Controls has actively contributed to Shanghai's urban and green development. "These platforms have not only brought us hundreds of potential clients but also enabled deep engagement with the city's development initiatives," Rathninde stated.

Under his leadership, Johnson Controls has focused on localizing production and engineering in China. The company proudly showcased two 100-percent China-developed-and-produced products at this year's CIIE, reflecting its commitment to innovation and local talent.

In response to the increasing demand for low-carbon solutions in China's new energy sector, Johnson Controls has been providing comprehensive energy solutions for lithium battery factories.

"Our efforts have been recognized by over 30 new energy clients in the lithium battery sector, contributing to our designation as a national green factory for several projects," Rathninde concluded, reinforcing the company's dedication to supporting China's sustainable development goals.
