During the recent National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport experienced a significant increase in international travel.
From Oct 1 to 8, the airport handled over 73,000 entries and exits, a 9 percent rise from last year. Among these, about 15,000 were foreign travelers.
To manage the higher volume of traffic, the airport's border control improved its operations by adding more staff members, simplifying procedures, and providing multilingual support. These measures helped ensure a smooth experience for travelers during the busy season.
Family and group travel were particularly popular, with many choosing short trips to destinations like Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Ms Zhu from Taiwan spent the Mid-Autumn Festival in Shanghai with her family. "Every year, I bring my family to enjoy hairy crabs because Hongqiao Airport is very close to Yangcheng Lake. The service at Hongqiao Airport is always excellent and the customs process is very convenient."
The number of South Korean visitors saw a significant rise, thanks to visa-free policies and the National Foundation Day holiday. South Koreans accounted for more than half of all foreign arrivals.
Mr Lee from Seoul, who has been working in China for two years, said, "I always opt for Hongqiao Airport when traveling between Seoul and Shanghai because the customs clearance is incredibly fast."
