Starting on Oct 28, all domestic flights at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport have a shorter check-in cutoff time for passengers without checked luggage. Travelers can now check in up to 30 minutes before departure, down from the previous 35-minute deadline.
The policy applies to all domestic flights (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) operating out of Hongqiao airport. Spring Airlines, which operates from Terminal 1, has reduced the cutoff time for all passengers, including those with checked luggage, to 25 minutes before takeoff.
This change builds on a previous adjustment made in January, when Hongqiao first shortened the cutoff for all domestic flights to 35 minutes.
The latest update is part of the airport's efforts to improve passenger convenience and support the smooth operation of the 8th China International Import Expo. Working closely with airlines and air traffic control, Hongqiao airport has optimized its flight handling process to enable faster check-ins.
Why cutoff times matter
Flight check-in deadlines mark the latest time passengers can complete check-in and baggage drop. They ensure airlines and airport staff have enough time to carry out over a dozen pre-departure procedures, helping flights stay safe and on schedule.
