A group of expatriates gathered at the eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) on Nov 8, taking part in a yearly event that aims to link foreign professionals with the CIIE and the Hongqiao International Opening-up Hub.
This year, several prominent expatriates, including Shanghai Magnolia Award recipients Constantinos A. Terzidis, Marco Mueller, Ishizuki Kenichi, and Steve (J.) Kulich, alongside nearly 30 professionals from the fields of technology, education, and business, visited the expo. They observed a lively exchange of innovations from around the world.
The CIIE, a key platform for international trade and cultural exchange, underscores China's commitment to openness and global engagement.

The expatriates began their tour at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), where they appreciated traditional Chinese art and learned about the country's rich cultural heritage.
They visited pavilions from countries like Sweden, Georgia, and Colombia, experiencing a variety of cultural displays. The tour ended at the China Pavilion, which showcased China's recent achievements and efforts to promote an open global economy.
Throughout the visit, expatriates expressed admiration for China's economic progress and technological advancements. Many, with years of experience working in Shanghai, expressed a renewed confidence in the city's dynamic market and bright future prospects.
Participants noted the blend of history and modern elements in the exhibits and appreciated China's accessible technology and innovation. They also pointed out the city's fast growth, mentioning new metro stations and shared bikes as examples.
The event highlighted Shanghai's warm hospitality and dynamic energy, encouraging interaction and mutual understanding among expatriates. Looking ahead, the Hongqiao International Central Business District plans to offer customized services for expatriates, establishing a world-class talent hub where international professionals can flourish and make meaningful contributions.
