The Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District (CBD) is at the forefront of Silk Road e-commerce development, showcasing significant achievements and innovative practices at the recent Silk Road E-Commerce Promotion Conference on Cooperation, Innovation, and Development.
Since late 2023, Hongqiao has been actively developing as a hub for Silk Road e-commerce, emphasizing higher-level openness, utilizing the influence of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), and promoting international collaboration. Over the past two years, these efforts have led to innovative practices that have been adopted nationwide, highlighting effective Belt and Road cooperation.
From January to October this year, Hongqiao's trade with Silk Road e-commerce partner countries surpassed 16.8 billion yuan ($2.36 billion), representing a 21.4 percent growth compared to the previous year. Exports alone rose by 35.99 percent, highlighting Hongqiao's growing influence in international trade.
The 2025 National Silk Road Commerce Selection Month was officially inaugurated during the conference, featuring a diverse array of both online and offline activities designed to engage a broad audience.
Notably, it features country-themed days dedicated to Thailand, Brazil, and Australia, highlighting their unique products and cultural heritage. Additionally, the month-long celebration includes specialized events such as the Silk Road Wine and Food Festivals, which aim to showcase and introduce high-quality Silk Road products to Chinese consumers.
Taking place during the eighth CIIE, the conference also featured a dedicated matchmaking session.
