The "Silk Road e-commerce" Spring Festival Shopping Festival which is hosted by the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center was launched in Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District on Jan 13.

During the festival, the center will invite anchors and business representatives from countries along the Silk Road to introduce their New Year customs and local specialty products through livestreaming events.

The idea of developing "Silk Road e-commerce" was initiated during the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) as part of the country's efforts to share market opportunities with the rest of the world.

The Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center, a major platform undertaking the spillover effects of the CIIE in Shanghai, established the Shanghai International Sister Cities Hub and an e-commerce livestreaming base in 2022, and displays nearly 5,000 kinds of commodities from 36 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

In addition, the center plans to set up online national centers, creating quick access to the Chinese market for companies from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

A variety of commerce and cultural activities such as special commodity exhibitions, investment promotional conferences and national cultural festivals are also expected to be held to facilitate cultural exchanges and commodity trade under the dual-circulation development pattern.
