The National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai hosted over 7.5 million sq m of exhibitions and 77 conferences in 2023, both record highs.
This achievement was announced by Ning Feng, president of NECC, during the collective signing ceremony of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held on Jan 9.

The exhibition area last year was a 25 percent increase compared to 2019, the year of the previous peak.
The total exhibition space used in 2022 was just over 900,000 sq m.
The dramatic increase in event space usage has been attributed to two key factors. First was the easing of pandemic-related restrictions towards the end of 2022. Second, the hiatus in exhibitions during the pandemic created an urgent need among buyers and sellers for direct communication and face-to-face interactions.
This resurgence was not limited to the NECC. Other major venues in Shanghai, including the Shanghai New International Expo Centre and the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Hall, also posted strong recoveries. The collective rebound of these key venues indicates a positive trend and a robust recovery for the exhibition industry in Shanghai.
