As China confronts the challenges posed by an aging population, a strategic initiative has been launched to enhance the silver economy, addressing the needs of older citizens.
The recent 2026 Silver Health Technology Industry Service Innovation Conference marked the launch of the Hongqiao Health Technology Industry Innovation Center in Shanghai, a key move in this national effort.
The center is dedicated to driving innovation in health technology and supporting regional development. It will serve as a hub for integrating resources and expertise, particularly through Shanghai's "One Doctor for One Disease" advisory group, which brings together top clinical experts to collaborate with industry teams.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to develop a manufacturing and research cluster in the Yangtze River Delta, with Hongqiao as its focal point. This approach — "Hongqiao R&D + Yangtze River Delta Manufacturing + Global Application" — seeks to transform local innovations into global solutions.
In addition, the center will promote the use of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and robotics, in elderly care and health management, aiming to develop scalable smart care projects.
With these initiatives, Hongqiao is set to become a leader in the global silver economy, fostering innovation and improving elderly care.
