Multiple industrial projects in the Qianwan area of the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District are currently proceeding in full swing.
Workers are busily engaged in welding and hoisting work at the construction site of Innovent's global research and development center. Innovent is a key industrial leader in developing, manufacturing and commercializing high-quality innovative medicines.
Once completed in June, the center will be dedicated to the R&D of global innovative drugs in such fields as oncology, metabolism, immunology and ophthalmology, thus integrating scientific research and technological applications.
Innovent is now mapping out its integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta region. "To realize a cycle of the bio-pharmaceutical industry, it is essential to adhere to an innovative and globalized development model. Industry concentration is conducive to industry synergistic innovation and accelerates the development of enterprises," said a company spokesperson.
Since 2015, Innovent has been conducting clinical research and established R&D functions for clinical research, medicine and data management in Shanghai, with a R&D team made up of hundreds of people. The choice of building a R&D center in the Qianwan area is crucial for Innovent, he said.
As an important carrier of Shanghai's biopharmaceutical industry, the Qianwan area has focused on rapid development in recent years. Leveraging the Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, it has introduced 11 high-end medical institutions.
Currently, five institutions in the area, including the west branch of Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University and StarKids Children's Hospital Shanghai, have opened. At the same time, by fully leveraging leading companies such as Innovent and Wego, the area has attracted a group of leading biopharmaceutical companies such as Yunnan Baiyao, CStone Pharmaceuticals and Neusoft Medical Systems, forming a relatively complete industrial chain.
