Recent developments in the transportation network of Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District have brought significant enhancements, with notable progress on two key rail lines — the Shanghai Airport Link Line and the west extension of Metro Line 13.
The Airport Link Line began trial operations in September and is expected to open officially by the end of this year. The opening of the line will reduce the commuting time between the Hongqiao and Pudong transport hubs to around 40 minutes, greatly facilitating the travel of residents and passengers along the route. Furthermore, it connects with multiple existing and under-construction rail transit lines, further improving the transportation convenience of Hongqiao CBD.
Meanwhile, the west extension of Metro Line 13 has also made recent strides, as the "curve-to-straight" special construction for the expansion project of the Beidi Road Depot of Line 13 was recently completed. This will satisfy conditions for connecting the new operation depot to the existing entrance and exit lines of Line 13.
The west extension spans approximately 9.65 kilometers and includes five stations, connecting the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the Huacao area of Minhang district, the Jiading area, and the downtown region of Shanghai served by Line 13. The completion of the line will provide more convenient travel conditions for enterprises and residents within Hongqiao CBD.
