The Hongqiao Talent Apartments in Changning district have become a crucial element in attracting young professionals to the Greater Hongqiao area.
The largest affordable rental housing project in Shanghai's central urban area recently surpassed 2,000 lease agreements, marking a significant achievement in the district's efforts to provide housing for talent.
With the latest tenant applications, the apartments reached a total of 2,037 signed leases, representing 74 percent of the initial phase's available units, and the total resident count rose to 2,678. The project, located in Xinjing town, covers 103,000 square meters and includes 5,420 residential units and 1,697 parking spaces. The first phase, with 3,598 units, opened in June, while the east section is set for completion by the end of 2025.
As the first pilot project for municipal talent rental subsidies, the apartments offer a variety of unit types and come with high-quality furnishings, allowing tenants to move in easily. Public amenities include a youth center, gym, and shared study rooms.
Convenience stores, restaurants, and other commercial facilities are already operational, with more services planned. The apartments provide free shuttle buses to Metro Lines 2 and 10 and plan to improve pedestrian access. Regular community activities and courses further enrich residents' lives.
The Hongqiao Talent Apartments also offer transitional housing for young job seekers, and provide affordable beds for urban construction workers. This initiative not only meets housing needs but also boosts the region's competitiveness.
