Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport saw an annual passenger throughput of 47.97 million in 2024, ranking ninth nationwide and marking a 12.9 percent increase year-on-year, according to preliminary statistics.
The recently released data highlights the strong performance of China's major airports, with Shanghai's two primary airports securing places in the top 10. Shanghai Pudong International Airport led the nation with a record-breaking 76.79 million passengers, not only topping the national chart but also re-entering the global top 10 in terms of airport passenger traffic.
Hongqiao Airport's robust growth and high ranking underscore its critical role in the aviation sector, contributing significantly to Shanghai's reputation as an international metropolis. The combined passenger throughput of Shanghai's airports surpassed 120 million, showcasing the city's substantial aviation capacity and global appeal.
