The "Golden Peru" promotional event, aimed at enhancing economic and cultural ties between China and Peru, was held at the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center in Shanghai on June 20.
Organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Consulate General of Peru in Shanghai, the event focused on Peruvian specialties and investment opportunities, the routes of Chancay Port, and people-to-people exchange.
Leveraging the 2025 Shanghai Shopping Festival and the impact of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the event aimed to help Peruvian products gain traction in the Chinese market.
China has been Peru's largest trading partner for a decade. Last year, Chancay Port was inaugurated as part of China-Peru joint efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative. As South America's first smart port, it has significantly reduced shipping times and logistics costs between China and Peru.
The event featured signing ceremonies for partnerships between Shanghai-based units and Peruvian enterprises. The Shanghai International Friendship Port and companies like B.B.FAT and TUI ALPACA signed cooperation agreements related to the CIIE. The Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center partnered with Peruvian coffee enterprises for the TOC Global Coffee Bean Competition to bring Peruvian products more closely in line with the preferences of the Chinese market.
