Since its launch in 2021 in the Qingpu area of the Hongqiao International Central Business District, the United Nations Sustainable Procurement project has significantly boosted the global presence of Chinese enterprises.

With its help, over 1,200 businesses have registered as UN suppliers, with 750 participating in procurement bids, resulting in 40 successful bids and six long-term agreements.

As Asia's first international public procurement platform involving UN agencies, the project has facilitated initiatives like the China UN Procurement Conference and helped many Chinese companies evolve from minor players to distinguished UN suppliers.

The project enhances UN agencies' direct procurement of "Made in China" products through capacity building, practical guidance, and innovation. This approach helps Chinese companies transition from passive responders to proactive leaders, turning "Made in China" into a quality brand on the global stage.

Implementing a dual-track model, the project combines public procurement with general trade to support global expansion. Collaborating with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, it ensures high-quality outbound services and localized resources, offering customized services like export policy explanations.

Additionally, the project develops a "white list" and "white paper" to standardize export channels, enhancing international exposure for Chinese enterprises and elevating Chinese standards in fields like new energy and medical equipment.

In partnership with Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, the project offers comprehensive UN procurement training, addressing talent development challenges. Its talent initiative encourages university students to engage in UN procurement practices, fostering sustainable growth and global competitiveness for Chinese enterprises.
