This summer, The Place shopping mall in Shanghai's Changning district is turning up the heat with an ocean-inspired event series called Wave the Summer, running from now to September.
With palm trees, colorful swimming rings and wave-like patterns woven into its decor, the mall has transformed into a thrilling playful tropical escape. Even the existing fountain has been re-imagined as a mini outdoor pool, adding to the fun, beachy vibe.
The outdoor installation offers different charms by day and night. In the sunlight, it's the perfect backdrop for dreamy summer photos. After dark, neon lights create a glowing, festive atmosphere ideal for evening strolls and social moments.

A full lineup of events — including live music, dance parties and family-friendly activities — is planned throughout the season, making it a lively destination for visitors of all ages.

A special market on July 4-6 will bring a cool twist to the mall's Feng Shang Street. Shoppers can taste creative ice creams, fruity cocktails and refreshing tea drinks, while enjoying mini games like fruit ring toss.
Later in July, the market will expand to include romantic Qixi Festival or Chinese Valentine's Day celebrations, gourmet bites and kid-friendly experiences.
But the fun doesn't stop there. Until July 20, the mall is hosting an exhibition in partnership with Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo. Kids and families can enjoy animal-themed games, educational displays and cute souvenirs.
Following that, another exhibition themed on the hit Canadian animated television series PAW Patrol will take young explorers into a playful world of construction and teamwork.
Visitors can also enjoy exclusive summer discounts. Until July 31, the mall is offering food coupons — spend 150 yuan ($21) to get 200 yuan-worth of stuff — along with discounted evening meals and half-price specials. Members can get great discounts on jewelry and fashion.
