Shanghai's Panlong Xintiandi, a commercial area inspired by the Jiangnan (the region to the south of China's Yangtze River) water towns, is gearing up for the May Day holiday with a water market that offers visitors a taste of traditional Jiangnan culture.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of traditional Jiangnan architecture, the water market features boats gliding through the waterways while carrying local crafts, foods, and goods. Visitors will be able to explore stalls along the water's edge, which offer a rich tapestry of Jiangnan's cultural heritage.
In collaboration with the international design team PINWU, the event will also feature large-scale art installations crafted from local materials such as rice husks and bamboo. These installations provide a modern twist on traditional Jiangnan aesthetics, creating a visually stunning experience for tourists.
Tourists can also participate in hands-on workshops, trying their hand at traditional crafts like plant dyeing and pottery. These activities provide a fun and educational way to engage with Jiangnan culture, making for a memorable holiday experience.
Panlong Xintiandi, a popular destination for urban micro-vacations, is home to nearly 200 brands, blending shopping, culture, and relaxation. Forty new stores focusing on cultural resonance and innovative retail experiences recently opened in the area.
As it celebrates its third anniversary, Panlong Xintiandi is committed to providing a vibrant and culturally rich experience for all visitors, blending historical charm with modern amenities to create a truly unique holiday destination.
