A core enterprise of Sino Biopharmaceutical Ltd and one of China's leading innovative drugmakers, Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd, or CTTQ, has opened its 1.8 billion yuan ($265.6 million) global research and development headquarters in the Qianwan area of the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District, strengthening Shanghai's Hongqiao area as a biopharmaceutical innovation hub for the Yangtze River Delta.
The headquarters in Minhang district has a floor area of 186,000 square meters, including one comprehensive R&D building, two core laboratory buildings and a talent apartment building.
The base will attract global R&D talent, support interdisciplinary incubation, and work with universities, research institutes, and pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing service providers to provide end-to-end support from process development to commercial production. It will also explore AI, big data and new materials, while using an innovation ecosystem fund to support promising teams and technologies.
The launch coincided with a global forum focused on biopharmaceutical innovation and development, titled "Boundless R&D, Sino Biopharm Sets Sail". This event was part of the Pujiang Innovation Forum's conference season, convening a diverse group of stakeholders including industry experts, corporate representatives, research institutions, and investors to discuss advancements and collaborative opportunities in the biopharmaceutical sector.
"Medical R&D should break barriers of region, ethnicity and industry, and serve the shared well-being of humanity," said Xie Chengrun, CEO of Sino Biopharmaceutical and chairman of CTTQ.
A Shanghai biopharmaceutical internationalization association was also launched to help Chinese innovative drugmakers tackle overseas registration, clinical data recognition and localization challenges, providing coordinated support for their global expansion.
