Shanghai's Hongqiao International Central Business District is stepping up efforts to help Chinese restaurant and beverage brands expand into Southeast Asia.

More than 30 leading catering companies gathered at Hongqiao Food Innovation Valley on July 28 for the "Starting from Hongqiao" outbound business event, which focused on market opportunities, investment strategies and regulatory compliance in Southeast Asia.

The event, part of the district's "Starting from Hongqiao" series, leveraged the advantages of the Hongqiao International Open Hub to connect businesses with professional services and resources for overseas expansion.

Industry experts shared insights on key factors for success, including localized operations, strong branding, supply chain management and compliance with local regulations.

Representatives from Chinese tea brand Chagee also shared the company's experience in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the importance of adapting products, store designs and business models to local markets while preserving its brand identity.

Speakers also discussed Halal certification, localized hiring, financial services and other practical support for companies entering Southeast Asia.

The Hongqiao Overseas Development Service Center continues hosting such events to help Yangtze River Delta companies expand globally through targeted market services and international business support.
