A coffee tasting event held as part of the Shanghai International Coffee Culture Festival brought coffee enthusiasts together at Shanghai's iconic Jinjiang Radisson Hotel on Aug 22, with a selection of award-winning beans featured for tasting.
Presented by the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center, the event included a coffee session led by Eric Baden, a German entrepreneur who has lived in Shanghai since 2003 and founded Coffee Commune in 2016. As a Q Arabica Grader and international coffee competition judge, Baden shared his knowledge of specialty coffee with participants.
The event featured pour-over tastings of "Taoli", an award-winning coffee bean from Yunnan, and "Summer Night's Dream" from Ethiopia, allowing participants to compare their distinct aromas and flavors.
Jinjiang Radisson Hotel also presented creative coffee drinks and a pour-over tasting featuring a "Hua Kui" bean, offering participants another perspective on coffee preparation.
The event combined coffee education, hands-on tasting, and professional evaluation. Participants learned the basics of professional cupping and compared the aroma, acidity, sweetness, and body of the award-winning beans.
It concluded with a professional cupping session, featuring 10 award-winning beans from the TOC (Taste of China) Global Specialty Coffee Green Bean Competition. Five beans were washed and five underwent other processing methods.
