Chen Jining, Party secretary of Shanghai, and Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, visited the Hongqiao International Central Business District (CBD) on Feb 20 to review its core area planning.
Chen said that the development of the core area of the CBD should be the district's top priority.
Chen emphasized the strategic importance of the Hongqiao International CBD, highlighting its strengths in large-scale exhibitions, transportation, and business. He called for enhanced planning to strengthen these advantages and create a business-friendly environment to attract corporate headquarters. The aim is to establish Hongqiao as a leading zone for enterprises expanding globally, contributing to Shanghai's role in advancing Chinese-style modernization.
After over 10 years of development, the Hongqiao International CBD has made significant progress. To further optimize the spatial layout and enhance core functions, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Hongqiao International CBD Administrative Committee and relevant districts, is working on a special plan for the district and surrounding areas, further refining the planning and design of the core area.
During their visit, Chen and Gong inspected several key sites, including the Hongqiao Railway Station and the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). They discussed refining the special plan and advancing construction efforts with relevant officials. They also visited the Hongqiao Overseas Development Service Center and the Hongqiao International Talents Service Center to review services aiding enterprises in global expansion and innovative talent services.
Chen stressed the need to focus on attracting dynamic corporate headquarters and providing comprehensive support for enterprises expanding abroad. He called for targeted planning, leveraging technological strengths, and enhancing the Hongqiao brand to strengthen the CBD's core competitiveness.
Gong emphasized the importance of enhancing spatial quality, functional integration, and connectivity within the Hongqiao CBD. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the spillover effects of the China International Import Expo by enhancing the connectivity between the exhibition center and its surroundings, increasing high-level conference and commercial facilities and advancing development and construction at a higher level through the implementation of the special plan.
