The Knowledge Sharing, Capacity Building and Supporting Service Programme on Sustainable Procurement of United Nations/International Organizations (UNPICBP) is helping more and more businesses get involved in international buying and selling.
The UNPICBP sustainable procurement programme – a collaboration between the UN and the government of Shanghai's Qingpu district – was launched in 2021 to better support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, innovative enterprises, and women-owned businesses in China.
Based in the Qingpu area of the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District, it helps these businesses connect with the UN and other international organizations to participate in global markets.
So far, the programme has translated and shared over 2,260 important procurement notices from 39 different UN agencies and international organizations. It has organized more than 20 events and helped 1,085 businesses register as suppliers for the UN. This means these businesses now have a chance to sell their products and services on a much larger scale.
The programme also offers advice and guidance to businesses, having done so about 2,800 times, and has helped them win 42 contracts.
It aims to move from merely training businesses to truly nurturing them, from one-way bidding to mutual promotion, and from managing databases to creating catalogs of green, innovative products.
