Shanghai Panlong Tiandi in the Hongqiao International Central Business District is now home to a captivating outdoor art exhibition of sculptures and colossal murals by Indonesian artist Syaiful Aulia Garibaldi. It will run until January 2026.
Garibaldi's work is known for merging micro-organisms with natural exploration, creating dynamic, living art.
His Fusion Sculptures, crafted from white plaster and embedded with local fungi, evolve over time as the fungi grow, adding a living texture to the pieces. These sculptures are strategically placed across the museum's lawns and the scenic Panlong Tiandi area.
The exhibition also features the Fusion Mural, which reflects Garibaldi's exploration of the cultural essences of both China and Indonesia. Using ink painting techniques, the mural complements the museum's traditional Jiangnan architecture and water town setting.
Community involvement is a key aspect of the project, with residents and students contributing to the mural's creation. A "Mushroom Hunt" invites visitors to discover hidden fungi throughout Panlong Tiandi.
