To accelerate the development of a world-class shopping zone in western Shanghai, the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District — spanning Minhang, Changning, Qingpu and Jiading districts — has recently launched the 2025 Hongqiao Go Shopping Festival.

The event is part of the ongoing Shanghai Shopping Festival, running from May 1 to late June and the upcoming Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, which goes from July to October.

Eleven key commercial complexes are offering major discounts — including 300 yuan ($41.59) off purchases over 1,000 yuan and 100 yuan off purchases over 500 yuan — across various retail categories.

The festival will also feature special shopping scenarios by blending tourism, culture, sports and exhibitions — including the debut of the CIIE Bazaar to leverage the spillover effect of the massive China International Import Expo that is held each year in Shanghai.

Collaborations with popular expos and top intellectual properties will introduce trendy elements such as anime culture, eco-living, pet-friendly experiences and coffee culture — creating vibrant, youth-friendly social spaces.

Four themed experiences

1. A taste of the world

An Italian food festival will bring Mediterranean flavors to the city, while the Shanghai-Yunnan Coffee Culture Promotion unlocks the rich aromas of Southwestern China's Yunnan estates.

From hand-brew tastings and DIY workshops to music events and family fun runs, the experience promises to be a real sensory adventure.

2. Global brands, local buzz

Top-tier international brands will offer discounts of up to 70 percent off, with highlights including French jewelry, wine tastings and a global luxury car display.

Online promotions and on-site offers are combining to create a great shopping spree. At the Greenland Global Commodity Trading Hub — a permanent trading platform of CIIE — marketplaces from over 30 countries and regions will aim to transform shopping into a global cultural journey.

3. Anime carnival, other fun boost nightlife

Anime, gaming and virtual idol fans can enjoy a summer carnival featuring cosplay shows and e-sports competitions. Night markets, open-air movies, limited-edition collectibles and trendy blind boxes will light up summer evenings.

Events like starlight beer festivals and Lohas eco markets will engage Generation Z — those born between mid- 1990s and early 2010s — as well as families and nightlife lovers in 48 hours of non-stop inspiration.

4. Culture meets creativity

This segment merges East and West — from Jiangnan region (south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River) paper-cutting and Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) bridges, to African wildlife art and hanfu or traditional Chinese apparel gatherings.
