Shanghai's Hongqiao International Central Business District spans 151.4 square kilometers across Minhang, Changning, Qingpu, and Jiading districts.

As the core area of the Hongqiao International Opening-up Hub, it plays an important role in building the hub into a frontier of innovation and reform that bridges domestic and international markets and fosters new quality productive forces.

The business district is known for its comprehensive transportation hub, convention and exhibition hosting capabilities, thriving commerce and trade, and intense focus on scientific and technological innovation. These four functions are its core strengths.

The district is cultivating a business-friendly, market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized environment to drive economic growth.

It also focuses on developing modern service industries and enhancing cooperation within the Yangtze River Delta region to better engage in global competition.

By capitalizing on national support policies and its strategic role as a transportation hub, the business district consistently fosters institutional innovation, amplifies the positive spillover effects of the China International Import Expo, and promotes the integration of industry and urban development.

The Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub is one of the world's largest transportation complexes and Shanghai's largest external transportation gateway. It integrates civil aviation, high-speed railways, intercity railways, long-distance passenger transport, rail transit, and public transport.

To better address companies' outbound reach, the district has rolled out a number of policies and government services, facilitating the overseas expansion moves of over 9,000 companies. The district has also gathered more than 50 investment trade service providers, facilitating trade and connecting industries in over 150 countries and regions.

Last year, its GDP surpassed 200 billion yuan ($28.97 billion) and its import-export volume reached 102.7 billion yuan. The number of registered companies has approached 100,000.

In anticipation of 2035, the business district aims to establish itself as a leading international trade hub. Its objective is to serve as a vital catalyst for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, position itself as a top-tier international business district, and act as a platform for innovative reform and advancements.
