Shanghai will host the 48th WorldSkills Competition from Sept 22 to 27 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), with the latest preparations announced at a State Council Information Office press conference on June 12.
Held every two years by WorldSkills International, the competition is regarded as the world's premier vocational skills event and a major platform for promoting skilled talent.
This year's edition will feature a record 64 competition categories, including seven new events such as drone systems, digital interactive media design, and rail vehicle technology. More than 1,400 competitors and over 6,000 registered participants from more than 70 countries and regions are expected to take part.
During the event, a high-level WorldSkills Conference will bring together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss topics ranging from artificial intelligence to green skills. Meanwhile, a WorldSkills Expo, interactive workshops, and city-wide outreach programs will allow the public to experience vocational skills firsthand.
Shanghai has stepped up preparations to welcome visitors from around the world. An international dining hall capable of serving 3,000 people simultaneously has been established at the venue, offering a wide range of international cuisine. More than 30 hotels have been designated to provide accommodation, while a dedicated transport network will connect the venue with airports, railway stations, and hotels.
The city has also launched multilingual tourism maps and 12 travel routes. More than 100 attractions will offer free or discounted admission to participants, allowing visitors to experience both the competition and Shanghai's culture and hospitality.
