The Shanghai International Friendship Cities Hub in the Hongqiao International Central Business District hosted a Brazil promotion on June 16, bringing together officials and business representatives to strengthen economic ties between China and Brazil.

Speaking at the event, Augusto Pestana, Brazil's consul general in Shanghai, said China and Brazil remain committed to openness and multilateral trade amid rising protectionism. He noted that bilateral trade has increased nearly 30-fold since 2003 and that Brazil became China's largest destination for outbound investment last year.

This year marks both the China-Brazil Year of Culture and the 38th anniversary of the friendship city relationship between Shanghai and Sao Paulo.

Ma Yinghui, director of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, said cooperation between the two countries has expanded from traditional sectors such as agriculture and energy to emerging industries including the digital economy, green development, and biomedicine.

Kong Fu'an, executive deputy director of the Hongqiao International CBD Administrative Commission, introduced the district's services and policies supporting companies seeking opportunities in Brazil.

During the event, the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center signed cooperation agreements with the Brazil Center, Brazilian restaurant chain Latina, and food company MBRF to promote agricultural trade and cultural exchanges.

Two sub-forums on investment opportunities and overseas expansion were also held, with companies and institutions from both nations discussing investment policies and market opportunities.
