The Hongqiao International Central Business District is putting the finishing touches on the cityscape to welcome competitors and visitors from around the world as Shanghai prepares to host the 48th WorldSkills Competition from Sept 22 to 27.
It is the first time in the event's more than 70-year history that the global skills competition will be held in the Chinese mainland.
The National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the main venue, has completed its final fit-out. About 1 million items in 13,088 categories will be used for the competition, from heavy machinery and vehicle models to fresh flowers and jewelry.
Digital Interactive Media Design is one of seven new skills this year. Large screens have been installed so that visitors can follow competitors' work and see their results in real time.
Across Hongqiao, transport hubs, major roads, shopping malls, hotels and community service centers are also getting into the WorldSkills spirit.

At the Hongqiao Transportation Hub and along major roads, rows of event-themed flags are creating a welcoming atmosphere for arrivals.
At hotels hosting competitors and other attendees, WorldSkills signs and displays featuring the blue and orange mascots Neng Neng and Qiao Qiao are welcoming guests.
