The TEDxHongqiao Open Mic is inviting people who live or work in Shanghai's Hongqiao International Central Business District to share personal stories, cross-cultural encounters, and perspectives on connecting with the world.
Organized by Xinhong subdistrict in Minhang district, the event is open to corporate employees, entrepreneurs, international residents, youth representatives, China International Import Expo participants, and other members of the Hongqiao community.
Applications are open until Oct 16. Selected speakers will deliver approximately five-minute talks at an in-person event on Oct 31. The venue will be announced at a later date.
Suggested topics include Hongqiao as seen through the eyes of its residents and workers, local places or products worth introducing to an international audience, the CIIE's influence on everyday life, and personal experiences of belonging or cultural differences.
The organizers encourage applicants to share authentic experiences in their own words, without the need for formal speeches or definitive answers.
Under the theme "Let the world hear Hongqiao — and let Hongqiao hear you", the event aims to provide a platform for diverse voices and personal stories that reflect the area's international connections.
