The first air-freight exhibits for the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE) cleared customs in Shanghai on Oct 13, led by Michelin tires made with 75 percent renewable and recycled materials, which are set to make their Asian debut.

Flown from Lyon, France, to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the tires incorporate sustainable materials, including carbon black recovered from waste tires, bio-based oils and resins, silica extracted from rice husks, recycled steel, and renewable textile materials. All materials have received third-party certification, according to Michelin.

The company said the tires meet its high-performance standards while advancing the use of renewable and recycled materials in everyday mobility.

Michelin, which has operated in China for 37 years, is participating in the CIIE for the sixth time. The company has an established presence in the Changning area of the Hongqiao International Central Business District. It has steadily increased the share of renewable and recycled materials in the tires showcased at previous expos, from 46 percent in 2021 to 71 percent in 2024.

Ye Fei, president and CEO of Michelin Greater China and Mongolia, said the CIIE provides a platform for companies to showcase global innovation, meet Chinese market demand, and deepen industrial cooperation. The company aims to work with local partners to expand the use of technological advances across broader industrial applications.

Michelin will also present its Touch Intelligence smart sensing technology in Asia for the first time, along with new products and system solutions for everyday mobility and professional applications.
