REFIRE Technology, a hydrogen energy company based in the Hongqiao International Central Business District, has unveiled a new concept for supplying AI data centers with on-site electricity generated by proton exchange membrane fuel cells at the 26th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) in Shanghai.
As AI drives soaring demand for computing power, access to reliable electricity has become a growing challenge for data center development. REFIRE's proposed hydrogen power system is designed to complement grid electricity, helping data centers meet rising energy needs without waiting for conventional power infrastructure to be completed.
According to Liu Yisu, director of strategic marketing at REFIRE, the system features modular expansion, flexible deployment and low-carbon operation. Once site conditions are ready, it can be installed and commissioned within 180 days, significantly shortening the deployment timeline compared with conventional power infrastructure, he said.
The new concept marks an expansion of REFIRE's business beyond hydrogen-powered mobility into energy solutions for AI computing infrastructure.
During the fair, REFIRE also participated in the launch of a pilot city cluster for comprehensive hydrogen applications spanning Northeast China. The initiative covers 14 cities and aims to link hydrogen resources with demand, while also promoting coordinated development across the hydrogen industrial chain.
Building on its fuel cell technology and application experience, REFIRE plans to work with industry partners to advance hydrogen-powered applications and accelerate commercialization, supporting emerging energy needs in the AI era.
