Shanghai's Xinhong subdistrict is expanding its pet-friendly offerings. Pet owners can look forward to more options for shopping, socializing and traveling with their furry companions.
From September to October, the subdistrict's Pet Week markets visited four residential communities, featuring more than 20 pet and lifestyle brands. The initiative is part of a broader effort to create pet-friendly neighborhoods with dedicated facilities, community activities and shops offering pet-related products and services.
For cat lovers, Hongqiao Vanke Center offers an example of how pets and people can share urban spaces. The office park has introduced Loving Cat House shelters and a trap-neuter-return program for stray cats, working with community groups, charities and veterinary hospitals to support animal welfare while keeping the grounds clean.
Pet-friendly experiences are also taking shape at Hongqiao Xintiandi, home to Pets Hub, an indoor pet playground, and events such as the PetPet Carnival, co-hosted with TOPS (The One Pet Show).
Traveling with a pet is becoming easier, too. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station launched a high-speed rail pet transport pilot in April 2025, while Terminal 2 of Hongqiao Airport opened a dedicated pet waiting lounge this July.
