Shanghai is buzzing with creativity and collaboration as muShanghai, a month-long pop-up city of innovation initiated by global builder community The Mu, attracts tech developers from across the globe.
"China's AI and hardware ecosystem is world-class but largely invisible to global builders," said Sun, founder of The Mu. "muShanghai exists to close that gap — 800 people, 28 days, zero spectators, pure co-creation."
Hosted at the Alibaba Hongqiao Center, muShanghai runs from May 10 to June 6, divided into four themed weeks, including AI, Biotech & Longevity, Robotics &Hardware, and Culture, allowing developers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors in the fields to collaborate and innovate.
AI Week featured the China debut of ClawCon, a festival celebrating personal AI with city meetups, live demos, and discussions on sovereign AI. Core contributors to OpenClaw, like Vincent Koc and Chinese ArkClaw developers, got to meet and exchange ideas.
Sun said, "In this space, collaboration happens naturally through the friction of exchanging complex scenarios and workflows."
Sun described muShanghai as a living, breathing experiment in innovation. "Go immerse!" Sun urged attendees.
"We don't want 'participants'; we want 'co-creators'," Sun said. To foster this environment, traditional seating arrangements have been replaced with bean bags and cushions, transforming the space into what Sun calls a "boiling cauldron" of interaction and creativity.
Sun also addressed the limitations of AI in capturing the essence of human interaction. "AI can compress information, but it can never compress the warmth of seeing someone's eyes light up when they speak, nor the friction and serendipity of real encounters."
As Sun said, "muShanghai is a rapidly growing pop-up city with its share of chaos and surprises. If you want something to happen, make it happen!"
