The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) Low-Altitude Economy Forum was held in the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District on July 18.
Government officials, industry leaders, and experts gathered to discuss AI-driven innovation in the low-altitude economy.
Several key initiatives were announced at the forum. Shanghai launched the construction of an eVTOL equipment manufacturing cluster, focusing on Changning, Minhang, and Qingpu districts. A national industry-education integration platform for low-altitude technology innovation was also launched to promote talent development, research, and technology transfer.
Shanghai's low-altitude economy application scenario map was also released, showcasing future uses in urban management, industrial operations, low-altitude transport, and commercial services.
Experts shared insights on AI-powered navigation, satellite internet, and the commercialization of next-generation aircraft, while local companies showcased their latest low-altitude technologies.
The Hongqiao International Low-Altitude Economy Industrial Park has expanded to 23,000 square meters and is home to key platforms such as the Shanghai Low-Altitude Flight Service Center. Hongqiao has also attracted multiple leading aerospace and aviation companies, supporting the city's goal of building a globally competitive low-altitude economy.
